Learning Something New Everyday

 


Hi  Everyone , my name is George Kalajyan and I'm currently a senior at CSUN in the FYI/JYI program to earn my bachelors and credentials in English to become a high school teacher. Ever since I was a little kid I knew I wanted to become a teacher when I was 6 years old my parents got me a white board and I would play teacher all day once I got home from school , I would pretend my room was the classroom and outside was the field so I would imitate the firearm and earthquake drills and read of imaginary student names. As I grew older my desire to get into education grew significantly as well as my desire to help people  emotionally . As someone who has gotten bullied a lot and having faced depression , anxiety , and low self-esteem I realize how hard and difficult teenage years can be as well as for people who are viewed as different . It took me a long time to accept and love myself having also faced family trauma in the past year as well , has significantly impacted me but has made me more stronger as a result of it . I love watching the Golden Girls it is my favorite show ever I have the face mask , the mug , 

a t-shirt , the pajamas , and even a portrait of them.  It got me through some pretty tough times , because of this show it made me feel more proud of who I am and when I came out in 2018 as gay in my college career even though I already felt comfortable telling certain people about my identity , I was able to be more open about myself .  I do have supportive friends , professors , and co-workers who are my real family and I can always count on them to have my back. Also just this year I learned I was adopted and I took some time to reflect on that as well as the way I've been treated and I was able to overcome the struggles , I was born in Yerevan , Armenia I came to America when I was 1 years old so I don't remember anything about that country but my life is pretty interesting . Also I  plan on becoming a Gender Studies Professor. I plan on going to Grad School but first I will work for two years before going back to make some money and get experience in a high school classroom first . I believe that technology should be used in the classroom appropriately as a way of learning with a strong purpose , students should be able to   see and  it should be used for students to be able to do discussion posts , online activities , and be able to use technology for other learning opportunities as the world is becoming more digital especially during the pandemic we should all be able to incorporate technology in the classroom for educational purposes such as Kahoot  an exciting game where you can post questions and students can click the right answer , using Padlet  , and other educational sites to get students motivated and encouraged to participate .As a student I've seen fellow classmates use technology for ineffective and inappropriate reasons such as looking at inappropriate websites or going to online games. Technology  can be our enemy sometimes so we can't always rely on it. We must be prepared for anything that might set us back so a back up plan is always necessary. As well as technology can also be used in harmful ways and get people to be influenced to think a certain way , online bullying , and even though the media is used to bring people together it can also divide people as well . Technology helps us in many ways but I believe that technology can also bring more harm than good.

    Hey George,
    Your Blog introduction was deep. I think you will be a great teacher; you have the attitude, and you were born for it. I believe that you shouldn't have to hide your identity from anyone; I'm glad you decided to show the world who you are, and that's the way it has to be. People shouldn't live with any fear of judgment. Everyone is unique in their way. I've never heard of the golden girls, but I did notice that you were the mask on the very first day of class. I agree with you that technology is a helpful tool when it is used properly. Unfortunately, some people use technology and media for inappropriate things, and others educate themselves. I guess it all depends, right? I know that technology was helpful for my junior year in CSUN since we transitioned virtually. I did not want to take a year off, so I decided to adapt to the circumstances. It went well, but I'm not a fan of it.

    Hi George, I also shared those feelings of wanting to be a teacher since I was a kid! I used to play teacher all the time. I love the commitment you put in your role playing as a teacher. I'm sorry for what you had to go through but I'm happy to hear your learning to accept and love yourself. Yes agreed, technology can be a difficult topic to get around because the uses of it are so varied. It can be used for greater good and it can be used for very bad things. The hope is that we move toward a direction that people learn to use it in a more productive and effective way. I guess that's why this is such an interesting topic for us to begin our first blog with. Since many of us are future teachers who will be working with the new generation that is growing up with technology it's in our hands to decide what route to take when using technology in the classroom. And it is our job to teach students on the correct ways to use technology.

Creating a Myth versus the study of myth

 One of the ways in which creating a myth differs from the study of myth is in the sense that when I was studying myth I was trying to make sense of the meaning and look more deeper as to what the myth was about . When I created my myth I feel that I was able to be more loose and creative in making my own designs and incorporate some relevant information .  As well as when we create our own myth or we get the option to choose I think that's what makes the difference most . Writing about poetry and Writing Poetry Comparison

 I feel that when you write about poetry you follow mostly on what kind of styles or what poetry means to you. I feel that you try to think very hard about what it could mean . While when you write poetry you don't have to think about it too hard, you just write down what you feel based upon your experiences , your feelings , and mood . I feel that they are both similar in regards to the process: you gather your thoughts and write down what you  are thinking about . As well as when you are writing poetry based upon how you feel , and how you want to express yourself it has a deeper and emotional feeling . When you are just writing about poetry I feel that it will be too formal because there's no feeling behind it. Personally when I was doing the essay I felt that when you write about poetry it's more about analysis , and trying to find the meaning of the poem .
